2023 January Bird

The featured bird for January 2023 is a Tufted Titmouse.

The Tufted Titmouse is a vocal songbird native to the eastern half of the United States of America.

Family: Paridae
Species: Baeolophus bicolor
Length: 5.5-6.3 in (14-16 cm)
Wingspan: 7.9-10.2 in (20-26 cm)
Weight: 0.6-0.9 oz (18-26 g)

The Tufted Titmouse is the largest of the Titmice. It’s often found in yards that have shade trees and a frequent visitor to birdfeeders. Since it’s not easily scared by humans and rather clever, it supposedly can be coaxed to feed from a hand.

The Tufted Titmouse mates for life.

Photographed from my backyard in a neighbor’s beauty berry shrub in the winter.
